CEO, Possibility & Purpose
The Bald Futurist

The next wave of automation is about to crash into the workplace, and it’s going to be a tsunami. Both blue- and white-collar jobs will be automated by a combination of IOT, analytics, AI, blockchain, and robotics technologies. Widespread job displacement will affect every one of us, with some major, reputable consultancies projecting that 40-50% of today’s jobs could be at risk of automation. Every one of us needs to be paying close attention. Even if our own jobs don’t change, the jobs of our neighbors and customers will be. In this energetic talk, futurist Steve Brown will discuss the future of work, a world of augmented workers, human-machine partnerships, and totally reimagined business operations. Attendees will learn which new technologies will be the most disruptive to the employment landscape, which careers are at highest risk, and which skills you (or your kids, or grandkids) will need to focus on to remain valuable in the new, emerging world of work.

Virtual Reality is no longer limited to being just the delight of kids and gamers.  The new world of VR is evolving rapidly and having businesses in a variety of industries considering enterprise application. As technology leaders start to shift their thinking from VR being an entertaining game to real-world implementation for their teams, there are pressing questions to consider:

  • What industries are the front-runners for using VR/AR?
  • How does this new technology play out when we look at a more traditional IT department (and company)?
  • What is the enterprise-level reach that is expected in 2 years?  5 years? 10 years?

As managers and leaders, we must help create an engaging environment for our employees - not just because it produces more, higher-quality work, but because it's the right thing to do when we care about our people. There are many facets of employee engagement; we will specifically be focusing on Daniel Pink's philosophy of providing Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose, and how it drives a positive and motivating employee experience.

Presenter
Matt Scherer

Littler

The world is sitting on the edge of a new industrial revolution. Over the coming decades, many traditional service industries will likely be automated and transformed in much the same way that industries involving manual labor and the production of physical goods were transformed by industrialization. Just as industrialization generated new risks that necessitated the creation of new risk management mechanisms—most notably, administrative regulation—the rise of A.I., the automation of services, the nature of digital-age research and development, and the commoditization of data will present challenges that will require the application of different methods of managing the public risks associated with these advances.  New paradigms may ultimately be needed—or old pre-industrial paradigms revisited.

Excitement around blockchain technology is rooted in financial services. Opportunities exist for lowered transaction costs and complexity, increased transparency, immutability and the potential to welcome billions of unbanked people into the global economy.

Disruption in this space is undeniable and evidence suggests that the impact of block-chain will extend far beyond finance, from voting systems, to manufacturing, to healthcare and more. A new dawn is upon us and your choice is to exploit the technology now or wait for others to innovate before you.

Join us for a discussion on how blockchain will change the world, from a social, global, financial and organizational standpoint, and be inspired to lead the transformation in your organization.

What exactly is the "Internet of Things (IoT)"? It is basically a network of connected devices, whether they be connected to each other or to a central brain. IoT opens the door to many opportunities but also brings about challenges, the biggest being security!  How is your company bringing IoT into the workplace while also protecting itself at the same time?  Another challenge is the amount of data these devices are creating; What are you doing to store all this data?  What opportunities and challenges are you facing and how are you dealing with them?
